Most mornings begin before the heat, with Rocky, a camera and the short walk from Casa Lapa to Playa Hermosa. The wet black sand becomes a mirror. Palms turn into silhouettes. The first color reaches the clouds before it reaches the beach.
This is not a stock-photo version of Costa Rica. These are the mornings we actually live here: quiet tracks in the sand, macaws moving through the almendra trees, dogs greeting each other and the sound of the Pacific getting louder as the path opens to the shore.
Playa Hermosa is also one of Costa Rica's serious surf beaches. Experienced surfers come for its fast, powerful beach break. Conditions change quickly, so swimmers and visiting surfers should always check the live beach conditions, respect local flags and talk with someone who knows the break before entering the water.
For guests at Casa Lapa, the morning can be as simple as coffee after a sunrise walk or as active as a dawn surf session followed by breakfast at the Beach Club. Jeff can help arrange surf guidance, local food, fishing, tours and the details that are easier when your host actually lives in the community.
Rocky considers this entire routine his job. He knows the beach path, the driftwood, the neighborhood dogs and exactly when the light is best. Bring your dog by request, bring your curiosity, and come see why an ordinary morning here rarely feels ordinary.
