Herradura · Costa Rica

A bay changes the view

Herradura offers a different way to spend time by the water. Instead of arranging the whole day around breaking waves, you can build a visit around the bay or a confirmed boat outing. Let the departure details shape the plan before adding lunch or other stops.

Find your bearings

Herradura is north of Jacó. Los Sueños Marina sits at one end of the horseshoe-shaped bay. The beach, marina and private resort facilities have different access arrangements.

Book the meeting point, not just the trip

For any boat outing, confirm the operator, departure location, check-in time and cancellation terms. Ask about life jackets for everyone in your group, shade, toilets and the return schedule. A marina name alone is not a complete set of directions, especially if you are meeting an operator outside it.

A sheltered appearance is not a safety verdict

The bay differs from open-coast Hermosa, but boat movement, weather and local conditions still matter. Ask where water activities are permitted and keep clear of working vessels. If a family member wants to swim while others depart by boat, make a separate plan with current local advice.

Playa Escondida is a separate surf decision

The nearby surf-report network includes Playa Escondida, a reef destination for experienced surfers. Do not assume a visit to Herradura gives you access to that break. Confirm the lawful route and current arrangements with someone who knows the location before committing to a session.
