Esterillos · Costa Rica
Choose a sector, then slow down
“Let’s go to Esterillos” is a beginning, not a meeting point. Oeste, Centro and Este call for a more specific plan. Choose the sector that suits the outing, save the entrance on your map and spend time there instead of trying to collect every beach name in an afternoon.
Find your bearings
Esterillos is southeast along the coast from Playa Hermosa, before Bejuco and Parrita. Use the full sector name when asking for directions or confirming a reservation.
Oeste has a recognizable landmark
The mermaid sculpture on the rocky part of Esterillos Oeste gives this stretch a distinct identity. Treat a visit as a chance to observe the coast from a sensible distance. Rocks and exposed pools are shaped by the tide; a photograph of a calm moment is not evidence that approaching is safe today.
Centro and Este deserve their own time
Do not assume that a reservation described as “Esterillos” is beside the landmark in Oeste. Confirm the sector and the actual access road. If you want a simple walking-and-lunch day, make the lunch location your anchor and ask about the nearest suitable beach entrance.
The shore is not a shortcut
Estuaries interrupt this open coastline. Plan to move between sectors by established routes rather than crossing water on foot or driving on the sand. A surf check also needs more than a regional forecast: look at the chosen peak, the tide and the available local support before entering.
